Knights strengthen off the field
York City Knights have further enhanced the backroom staff at the club with the addition of Richard Smales joining the commercial department. Richard joins the club having previous experience in commercial positions within football and rugby league clubs.
Richard joins the club at a time of growth on and off the field. Full time staff off the field contribute to the growth of the organisation through positive engagement with private, public and third sectors.
Knights Chairman Jon Flatman said: “Richard has the personal and professional skills to become part of the future of this club and I am sure he will add value to our organisation.
“His skills compliment those of Commercial Director, Darren Crake. The ‘team behind the team’ is now taking shape and are focussing on delivering our aims and objectives. Fans, partners and sponsors will hopefully join me in welcoming Richard to the club and the city.”
On joining the club Richard comments: “There is huge potential here at York City Knights from a commercial outset, with a city full of business’ of all sizes we can now make a stronger impact to improve the sponsorship element throughout this season and next year.
“With the move into a new stadium not too far away it is important we make the groundwork now in preparation for the move.
“Having spoken to Chairman Jon Flatman I have bought into his vision for the club, now it is important that we as staff portray this vision to the business community of York and throughout the North Yorkshire region to create a real buzz around the Knights, after all we are the only professional Rugby League club in North Yorkshire.
“I will be using all my experience from previous commercial roles and connections to build a strong commercial presence for York City Knights and I’m very excited to get started on the challenge.
