York City Knights went down 28-6 against newly promoted Super League side Hull KR in Ben Cockayne’s testimonial match at a bitterly cold KCOM Craven Park yesterday, but will take plenty of positives from the afternoon. Tim Sheens fielded a strong starting 13 featuring plenty of top flight and international experience – including a debut for Leeds legend Danny McGuire – and soon got into the groove, opening the scoring after just six minutes, Liam Salter grounding after good play down the right edge. York City Knights scored four late tries against a spirited York & District ARL team to earn victory in their opening pre-season fixture of the 2018 season at a bitterly cold Bootham Crescent on Wednesday evening. The Knights fielded six new signings and five trialists in James Ford’s 21 man squad – with Graeme Horne, Ben Cockayne Jake Butler-Fleming, Andy Ellis and Joe Porter not involved. Newcastle Thunder sensationally secured the last Kingstone Press League 1 play-off place with a dramatic victory over a much changed York City Knights at Bootham Crescent. Coach James Ford was forced to make six changes from the side that defeated Workington Town last week, however the Knights held a slender 7-6 advantage at the break. YORK CITY KNIGHTS returned to winning ways at a pleasantly warm Bootham Crescent with a composed 28-18 victory over Workington Town in an entertaining Kingston Press League 1 Super 8s clash today (Sunday 13th August).  After an even opening stint, Andy Ellis broke the deadlock after a classic dummy half try from close range. After last week’s heroics against Toronto Wolfpack, York City Knights were brought back down to earth with a bump at Cougar Park on Sunday, as a late James Feather try earned Keighley Cougars a 22-20 victory in the second round of the Kingstone Press League 1 Super 8s.
