York City Knights have bolstered their forward pack by bringing in powerful middle Colton Roche back on loan from Super League’s Huddersfield Giants on an initial 1 month loan, for the second time this season.

24 year old Ireland international Roche returns to York after having made 25 appearances for the Knights in 2014/15, and has high end Championship experience with Sheffield Eagles, Featherstone Rovers & in the full time environment with Bradford Bulls, where he impressed to earn a shot at Super League with the Giants. Earlier this season Roche made two appearances for the Knights, featuring in victories against Oldham and Keighley.

Knights Head Coach James Ford was pleased to strengthen his middle unit heading into an important run of games in the Betfred League 1 season – including two games against Cumbrian opposition: “Colton is a powerful and direct runner who will bring some more intent to our defensive contact. I really enjoyed working with him previously and was impressed by his leadership.

“He is highly regarded at Huddersfield and we are very pleased to get him back on board – He’s coming from a good environment and I’m sure he’ll help strengthen us on and off the field once again.

“I’d like to thank the Knights supporters for getting behind the club and facilitating signings like this.”

Roche added: “It’s great for myself to get some quality playing time with a quality team, I know the club well and it is a fantastic environment to learn and play in.

“I will also be pleased to work with James Ford again as he helped me get to the Super League, and will give my best efforts to help the team achieve all the success we are capable of.”

Colton will next be in contention for the Knights squad for the trip to Whitehaven next Sunday, 27th May.
