The York Community Stadium will be renamed the LNER Community Stadium after naming rights were approved at a City of York Council session last night.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) run the popular East Coast Mainline railway which spans from London to Inverness, as well as the historic York Railway Station.

A Council statement said: “City of York Council will now enter into an agreement with London North Eastern Railway (LNER) for the Community Stadium Naming Rights Sponsorship after it was approved at a decision session today (26 November).

“The approval from the Executive Member for Finance and Performance, authorises Ian Floyd, Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Customer and Corporate Services to progress the Stadium Naming Rights Sponsorship Agreement.”

The Knights will then get their keys to the complex once construction is complete, with test events taking place thereafter before a competitive fixture can be played in the new stadium.

Our 2020 Betfred Championship campaign kicks off in Toulouse on Saturday, 1st February at 6pm local time, with our first home game taking place in round 2 against Bradford Bulls on Sunday, 9th February at 3pm.
