York City Knights are delighted to announce that popular back rower Joe Batchelor has returned to the club on a one month loan from St Helens.

The 24 year old originally joined York as a relative unknown from Coventry Bears ahead of the 2017 season, and was instrumental in the Knights team that won Betfred League 1 last year, scoring 23 tries in 27 appearances – with his performances earning him plenty of accolades and a 3 year Super League deal with the ‘Red V’.

Head Coach James Ford – who first coached Batchelor at Wakefield College – was delighted to see the return of the strike player: ” Joe is a good player with a great attitude, and I’m pleased he’s coming back to us. It’s an environment he knows and trusts well and he will contribute to the culture in the squad. There’s some quality competition for places in this team and that is a real positive at this level.”

Joe will be unavailable for the trip to Dewsbury this weekend, but will be considered for selection for vital games against Barrow, Bradford & Leigh throughout an important month of action as the Knights look to establish themselves in the Championship.

The Knights travel to Dewsbury Rams this Sunday (10th February) in round two of the Betfred Championship, looking to pick up their first two league points of the season.
