York City Knights can confirm that full back Ash Robson has left the club after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

The Knights can also confirm that winger Matt Chilton has left the club due to work commitments away from the game.

23 year old Robson initially joined his hometown team from Castleford Tigers in January 2017 on a three year deal, and signed a two year extension in March 2019.

Robson played 47 games in total for York, scoring 26 tries and 17 goals.

He said: “I’m grateful for my time at this club. I’ve met some blokes I can call friends for life, and fans that are genuinely passionate about the city and the team.

“I’d like to thank everybody who has played a part in my development, rehabilitation & wellbeing and wish the club every success for the future.”

York Acorn product Chilton joined the club on deadline day in 2018 and impressed enough to earn a 2 year deal in October that year. Unfortunately due to his work commitments changing he can no longer train to the standards expected at the Knights and by himself.

Chilton made 9 first team appearances in total, scoring 7 tries.

He said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at York, the last 2 years have been a great experience. Unfortunately it’s time for it to come to an end and go back to Acorn to play my rugby with all my my best mates again.

“My work commitments have changed which means I can’t put 100% into training like the club and I want me to do. Not many people get to play for their home town club and it’s been a pleasure which I am very grateful for, and proud to have done. A big thanks must go to Fordy, the coaching staff and everyone at the club for making this possible.

“I have made friends for life at this club who have been good with me ever since I started my trial 2 years ago and have made me a much better player, who I will be staying in touch with as much as possible.

“Finally thank you to the fans for all the support you gave me and all the boys for the last 2 years.

“Good luck to the club for next year and beyond!”

The Knights would like to thank both Ash and Matt for their efforts in Amber & Black and wish them well for their future careers.
