York City Knights are pleased to announce that teenager Myles Harrison has extended his stay with the club after agreeing to stay with the club for 2021 on Community Dual-Registration terms.

17-year-old Harrison came through the Knights’ Excel program in recent years and, after continuing to impress at Heworth ARLFC, head coach James Ford brought him into the fold in pre-season.

Harrison came off the interchange bench in the Knights’ 12-12 draw with Featherstone Rovers in January and was training with the first team until the season was curtailed.

On Harrison’s retention, head coach James Ford said: “Myles demonstrated plenty of resilience to endure a difficult step up and then showed an awful lot of promise towards the end of our preparations.

“He takes responsibility for his own development, shows great humility and drive to be better – qualities that will really help Myles along in his journey.

“It’s very difficult for Myles to learn full-back and half-back at this level but I was pleased with his progress and I’m excited to continue working with him and see where he is after our pre-season.”

Harrison, who joins his Heworth teammates Toby Warren and AJ Towse in signing for the club, himself outlined his joy at staying with the club. “I’m absolutely over the moon to be staying with Knights,” he explained “I learnt more from Fordy and the players in six months than I have in ten years of playing rugby league and I’ve still got plenty to learn especially with the world-class experience we’ve got coming in next season.

“My whole family are Knights fans and have been since way back in the Clarence Street days so I’m thankful for this opportunity to make them proud.”

Harrison’s signature extends the number of players signed for next season to twenty-four. Further announcements are set to be made in the coming weeks as the makeup of our 2021 squad nears completion.
