The first signing of the day was Olivia Wood, the 19-year-old joining the Knights from Bradford Bulls. Regarded as one of the brightest talents in the game, Wood admitted she was excited to get started and outlined her belief that the facilities at the club were “really impressive.”

Following Wood was the signing of England international Rhiannion Marshall, the first of five players to make the move from Castleford Tigers to the Knights. The 28-year-old has formerly played under the Ladies’ new Head of Performance Adam Cuthbertson who outlined his belief that Marshall will prove to be a key part of the Knights puzzle, saying “I think she’s quite exciting, a true leader and is going to be one that we can hopefully set the foundations around moving forward at York City Knights.”

Marshall’s fellow England star Kelsey Gentles was the next announcement, also joining from Castleford Tigers. Gentles is one of the best-known players from the Betfred Women’s Super League are her reputation was only heightened by her incredible tackle against Australia in the 2019 World Cup Nines for England. Gentles, who can play across the back-line, was Cas’ top try scorer in 2019 and, after signing, she explained how pleased she was to be working once again with her old coaches. “Daryl [North] and Kay [Rollinson] have built a wonderful platform over the years. I’m also looking forward to joining up with Lindsay Anfield and Callum Windley,” she explained.

The signing of Tamzin Renouf was the fourth member of the #SuperSeven. 19-year-old Renouf represented England during their 2019 tour of Papua New Guinea and made her name working with Anfield at Castleford. The teenager outlined her delight and excitement at signing for the Knights, saying “it’s great to come into a new team and see all the great things that York are doing.”

Wood’s Bradford teammate Savannah Andrade was the new announcement of the day, making the switch from West to North Yorkshire. The 21-year-old was a member of Bradford’s 2017 ‘Invincible’ season when they went the whole year unbeaten and arrives as part of an exciting group of signings. Director of Women’s Rugby Anfield was delighted to sign Andrade and paid tribute to her time as a player, saying “Savannah is a Women’s Super League original and has enjoyed a lot of success over the years with the Bradford Bulls.

“She has been on the scene for a long time but I truly feel that her best is yet to come.”

The sixth signing saw a familiar face to some in York sign for the club in the shape of Grace Field. Another signing from Castleford, Field has worked for the Knights’ Foundation in recent years and joins a group of her former teammates in signing for the club. “I’ve been involved with the club for a long time in an off-field capacity and when I was approached with this vision it was something I was keen to be involved with,” Field explained.

The final member of the #SuperSeven was Castleford hooker Sinead Peach. A player at Featherstone Rovers before joining the Tigers, Peach has played at the elite level for a number of years and is another England international to sign for the club. “I’m really excited. It’s a new challenge and a big opportunity. I can’t wait to get started,” Peach said after joining the Knights.
