Knights land local lad Liam Jackson
York City Knights are delighted to announce that local lad Liam Jackson has signed a one year deal with the club.
The 22 year old Heworth half back caught the eye of James Ford while impressing for the Villagers in 2017 and also the revitalised York & District representative team, and has featured in both of the Knights opening pre-season fixtures this term.
Head Coach James Ford said: “Liam could certainly be a great find for us – there is definitely more in him. He’s shown some impressive moments in training and in our trial games so far.
“He has a fantastic attitude and is very aware of where he needs to improve to become a regular player for the Knights. When Liam doesn’t feature for us we’ll offer him up on Dual Registration for his community club – who we feel will be gaining a much improved player.
“He is a credit to his community club Heworth, and he is a great example to the junior players at all our community clubs in this city that if you work hard, the opportunities are there.
“It’s important we build a very competitive squad but at the same time we’re mindful not to detract from the community game which is in a healthy spot in York.”
Commenting on the deal, Jackson said: “It’s great to have signed for my hometown club – it’s going to be a big challenge for me stepping up from the amateur game but I’m looking forward to seeing what I can achieve.
“The squad is full of quality and I’m just trying to learn what I can from the senior boys within it.”
Liam will be in the Knights’ squad to face Featherstone Rovers at the LD Nutrition stadium on Sunday (3pm), as pre-season preparations continue ahead of a blockbuster opening game in the 2018 Betfred League 1 against Bradford Bulls at Bootham Crescent on Sunday 18th February.
