Knights nominated for Active York Sports Awards

York City Knights have been shortlisted for three gongs at the 2019 Active York Sports Awards next month.

The Knights are nominated for ‘Club of the Year’, while Connor Robinson and James Ford have been nominated for ‘Sportsperson of the Year’ and ‘Coach of the Year’ respectively.

York City Knights’ recognition comes for their accomplishments both on and off the field in the last 12 months, after successfully securing promotion to the Betfred Championship and engaging with the local community through unique campaigns to engage with new supporters and increase crowds.

Robinson was key to the Knights’ campaign for promotion and ended the season as top goal and overall points scorer in League 1 in 2018, and has featured prominently during York’s fantastic start to life in the Championship.

Ford led his side in their fight for promotion which saw the club defeated just twice in the league and pip former World Club Champions Bradford Bulls to the League 1 title, as well as masterminding a club record 8 wins from their opening 12 games in the Championship to date.

The awards – which are in their sixth year – are organised by Active York, the city’s sport and active leisure partnership, which is working to encourage people to be more active more often. They take place in the University of York’s Roger Kirk Centre on 26th June 2019.

The Active York Sport Awards continue to grow each year with the number of nominations, clubs and variety of sports and clubs involved this year testament to this.

The evening will celebrate sport and activity in York as well as recognise the success of the Fund For The Gifted scheme, which provides grants for young sportspeople to put towards equipment and training.

The awards evening, which is being hosted by BBC Sport’s Tanya Arnold, starts at 6.30pm and will include a three-course meal, a raffle and the presentation of the awards.

Tickets to attend the event are now on sale priced at £40 per person.  It would be great to see Knights fans supporting the club and Connor & James by attending the event.
