Kriss commits for 2020!
York City Knights are delighted to announce the re-signing of hooker Kriss Brining on a one-year deal for the 2020 Betfred Championship season.
26 year old Brining initially played for five seasons with the Knights after coming through the club’s scholarship program, making his York debut in 2011 against Widnes aged 17 – becoming the Knights’ youngest ever player.
Through his initial spell with the Minster city club, Brining made 86 first-team appearances, scoring 54 tries in the process – with 45 tries in as many games during his last two years with the club.
A move to Salford Red Devils followed and, while he featured 24 times for the Super League club in his first season, he was unable to feature in 2018 due to injury problems, problems which saw him released by the club at the end of the year and return to his roots.
Scarborough-born Brining was influential on his return to the Knights, making 23 appearances and scoring four tries as York sealed a memorable 3rd place finish in the 2019 Betfred Championship.
Head Coach James Ford said: “I’m pleased to retain Kriss, he had some important moments for us in 2019 and we’re all looking forward to getting him back to his very best.
“With a good preseason I’m confident we’ll see him play to the levels we all know he’s capable of on a weekly basis.”
Brining added: “It was an easy decision when you’ve got a group like we do.
“The club means a lot to me and it’s great to see the buzz around it and rugby league in York again.
“I can’t wait for next year and hopefully we can have another successful one.”
