Our 2022 Squad is coming together!
As the beginning of pre-season for our Men’s first-team approaches, the Knights’ squad is coming together.
This week has already seen experienced Betfred Super League forward Jordan Thompson join the club from Leigh Centurions while prop forward Ronan Dixon has committed to what will be his sixth year with the Knights.
The pair will be joined in the pack by Jack Teanby and Marcus Stock, the pair having signed new one-year deals with the Knights. The pair joined ahead of 2019 and will be extending their time with the club to a fourth season. With vast experience having left the club in the off-season due to retirements, the pair, along with Dixon, have said they are keen to step up into those shoes and develop as leaders in the group.
Will Jubb, the man who captained the Knights in our first match at the LNER Community Stadium against Hull FC in a pre-season friendly in March, is another who fits that bill and has been joined in the hooking department by Sam Davis from London Broncos, the Leicester-born man signing a one-year deal with the club.
His housemate at the Broncos, Jacob Ogden, has also committed to making the move north with the Jamaican international centre signing a two-year deal with the Knights as he looks to further his development under the tutelage of Head Coach James Ford.
Highly-rated winger Joe Brown is one of the players who could line up outside Ogden in 2022 after he joined the club from Bradford Bulls. The 22-year-old makes the move across West Yorkshire and, after coming through the Bulls academy as well as a spell with Wigan, hopes are high for the tall winger in his first year with the club.
Former Knights loanee Will Oakes, who has had previous spells with the club in 2018 and 2019, has also returned to the club for next season after joining from fellow Betfred Championship club Dewsbury Rams.
Local trio Myles Harrison, AJ Towse and Toby Warren will all be continuing with the Knights after signing long-term deals earlier this year and, after impressing at the end of the season, the Excel programme graduates will be keen for more involvement next year.
With the Knights suffering from injuries in the halves throughout 2021, a pair of new pivots have been brought in – both of whom will be familiar to the club. Jamie Ellis, who was with the Knights for a brief period on loan this season, has signed from Leigh Centurions and commented that, even though the Knights are part-time, he intends on being a full-time player with the club. Fans’ favourite Liam Harris has also returned to the club he served so well in two previous spells in 2017 and 2019 and has signed a deal to join from Halifax Panthers.
Last but not least, star full-back Matty Marsh has signed a two-year deal with the club. Marsh first joined the club permanently for the 2019 campaign after a dual-registration spell in our promotion-winning 2018 season and has been a regular fixture for the club since. Our top try-scorer in both of his two full seasons with the club, his threat from full-back will once again be enjoyed by Knights fans in 2022 – and Season Memberships are available now!
