York City Knights have added considerable experience and extra depth to their back line options by signing Challenge Cup winner Tom Saxton for 2018.
The 34 year old former Hull FC, Featherstone and Halifax winger first joined the Knights in May 2016, and has so far featured in all three pre-season games this year as a trialist.
Head Coach James Ford said: “Tommy wanted another season and we wanted that too. He brings a lot to us on game day and he’s well-liked by the group and the staff. But we just wanted to make sure both parties were making the right decision.
“We chose not to rush into anything out of respect for him, but he’s looked sharp in pre-season and he’s ready to go.
“I’m really pleased we have him for another season. He’s had a superb career playing for excellent clubs at outstanding levels, the younger lads in the group will learn a lot from him.”
Tom will be in the Knights’ squad to face Hunslet at Bootham Crescent on Sunday (3pm), as James Ford’s pre-season preparations continue ahead of a blockbuster opening game in the 2018 Betfred League 1 against Bradford Bulls at Bootham Crescent on Sunday 18th February.
