Super League Double Header at Community Stadium!
York City Knights are excited to confirm that the brand new York Community Stadium will host a 2020 Betfred Super League fixture between Toronto Wolfpack and Wakefield Trinity on Sunday, March 22nd.
The match will form part of a Mothering Sunday rugby league double header with the Knights also playing a home Betfred Championship fixture on the same day (fixtures out November 17th).
Toronto Wolfpack featuring Jon Wilkin, Ricky Leutele and rumours linking them to signing Sonny Bill Williams will go head to head with Wakefield Trinity’s Danny Brough, Ryan Atkins and David Fifita in a blockbusting encounter.
The Wolfpack earned promotion to Super League after beating Featherstone Rovers in the Championship Grand Final last month, but will play their three home ‘loop’ fixtures in the UK due to the harsh Ontario climate early in the season. The full fixture list for the 2020 Betfred Super League was announced at 9am this morning (Tuesday 5th November).
Knights Chairman Jon Flatman said: “This is an exciting development in the growth of Rugby League in York and North Yorkshire. It’s a fantastic opportunity for the local community to see top class sport in wonderful new community stadium facilities.
“Tickets will be on sale soon and I am sure it’ll be a world class event that’s not to be missed. Let’s aim for a sell-out and a day to remember for everyone!
“A big thank you to David Argyle and Martin Vickers at Toronto Wolfpack, and City of York Council and the Stadium Management Company for their support in making this a reality in addition to the RFL and Super League for supporting this initiative.”
