Teanby excited for the future after signing new deal

“It was an easy choice to stay. The lads, the fans and the facilities are top class and, with the new stadium, it’s going to be even better!”

These are the words of Jack Teanby who, as we announced earlier today, has signed a new one-year deal which will see him pull on the Knights jersey in 2021. On his reasons for re-signing, Teanby paid testament to the whole setup at the club. “The lads and the coaching staff across the board, from Fordy to George Leatt who keeps the boys well fed after training, they’ve been some of the best aspects of the club” he explained.

“The great facilities we have access to and the atmosphere the fans bring have made playing for York a pleasure. It feels like a close-knit family and encourages you to play your best week in, week out.”

A further nod to the coaching setup was added with Teanby acknowledging his belief he can continue to grow with York. “Ever since I started here, my game has vastly improved under Fordy’s coaching,” he reasoned. “I know the club has so much more to teach me and signing again will only help me improve more.”

2021 will see 24-year-old Teanby line up as part of a vastly experienced Knights pack and the prop is keen to learn alongside them. “I’m eager to learn from the masses of experience every player will bring. You can use it to adapt your own style of play and expand on your own knowledge and technique,” he noted.

Away from rugby league, Teanby has been fortunate enough to still be busy with work through the current pandemic, saying that is keeping him occupied. “In between work, I am fitting in sessions on the field and in the gym to keep ticking over for pre-season,” he added. “Over lockdown I was lucky to have a few weights and bars so I did as much as I could with what I had.”

Teanby further acknowledged that he, for once, is keen to return to pre-season and outlined what Knights fans can expect from him next season. “Normally you don’t really look forward to pre-season but being away for so long means I will jump at the opportunity to get back into it,” he outlined.

“The fans can expect 100% every week from me next year and they’ll hopefully see my enthusiasm and determination to improve and learn with every passing game.”

Next season will see Teanby and the Knights playing at our new LNER Community Stadium home, a prospect he admits he is relishing. “I managed to get a look around it and it’s outstanding,” he expressed, adding his belief that it’s “probably the best outside Super League.

“It’s been built to suit our game so there will be some cracking matches played there in 2021 and to be able to run out on it next year in front of the fans will be a massive honour.”

In recent weeks, as we have announced retentions and signings ahead of 2021, many players have outlined their desire to repay the faith of the fans who donated their memberships back to the club, becoming 2020 Patrons in the process. On that, Teanby said: “It’s an amazing effort from everyone involved and shows how much of a family the York City Knights community are.

“Without them, not many of these signings would have been achievable.”

The former Dewsbury man further outlined his desire to see the Knights’ faithful bring the atmosphere and support they give the team at Bootham Crescent to our new home, adding that the players feel and appreciate it hugely. “Hopefully they will all be there in the new stadium, bringing the great atmosphere they did at Bootham which means everything to the boys.

“From me personally being sponsored by the fans (Bootham Tavern Knights’ Social Club) means a huge deal and to be able to run out in front of them will be a massive honour. Hopefully we give them games to remember as a thank you for sticking by the club in these uncertain times.”
