The York City Knights Excel Player Development Programme was initially launched in early 2019 and has an aim to help every player reach their potential.
This is done through open access training sessions, an introduction to strength and conditioning, nutrition and other lifestyle advice. Although the Boys Excel programme is open to players from Under 12’s to Under 16’s, and is delivered in blocks of coaching those players in Year 10 & 11 (U15s & U16s) get the opportunity to take part in fixtures against other professional clubs.
The Excel programme – which uses the same state-of-the-art York St John University sports facilities used by Knights men’s and women’s teams – forms part of the York City Knights’ player pathway programme and is rated as outstanding by the RFL.
The programme is free, but booking is essential!
We are always seeking sponsorship that can help us assist with this programme. For more information or please get in touch.
Excel Programme 2022 Plan
Our popular player development programme is back for 2022! The Monday night sessions will run from the 28th of March right through the rest of the year, with the final session taking place on the 5th of December.
The programme will kick off with the u15s & u16s completing a micro block of three sessions and an away fixture vs Hull FC on the 13th of April, before joining us again on the 5th of September for a six-week block (fixtures for this block are to be confirmed).
The current u12s will get their first taste of Excel sessions from the 9th of May to the 13th of June and this will be followed by the u13s & u14s together, joining us from the 20th of June to the 18th of July.
We’ll have a break over the summer and recommence the programme with the u15s & u16s as mentioned above (5th of September to the 10th of October). The final block of sessions will take place from the 7th of November and end on the 5th of December. (The format and age groups of this block is yet to be decided but it is hoped the u12s, 13s and 14s will all get to experience more sessions during this block).
We are aware that some children play above their own age for their community clubs, however, when signing up, please ensure children are signed up to their correct school year age group.
This is to avoid a current Year 7/u12 who plays with the u13s (Year 8) at club level, joining the group and training with the u14s (Year 9s). The only exception to this will be in the u12s, where we will allow Year 6/u11s to sign up to the u12s block.
Year 7 = u12s
Year 8 = u13s
Year 9 = u14s
Year 10 = u15s
Year 11 = u16s
