Knights Foundation Fish and Chip Friday Returns!
York City Knights Foundation are proud to announce the second Fish and Chip Friday event will take place on the 26th January at York St John University, Haxby Rd from 12noon until 2pm.
Following and incredibly positive response to the first event the Foundation are continuing to work with both Millers Fish and Chips and York St John University to make this a monthly event.
The purpose behind this event is to give people the chance to come together for some food, a drink and a chat. It will give people who may be feeling lonely, isolated or who may benefit from additional opportunities to socialise in coming together and enjoying a meal.
Neil Gulliver, Foundation Manager, said “This is a great opportunity for people to meet up with people to have some excellent food provided by Millers at an exceptional venue in York St Johns University Sports Park. We are really pleased to be able to offer this opportunity and wanted to have an event which would appeal to people who may be feeling lonely or isolated, they may be a carer, suffering from dementia or just want another opportunity to get out and meet people. Our Fish & Chip Friday event will give people the chance to get together in the cold month of November and is something we will be looking to make a regular thing. So far this has proved to be very popular and I would encourage people to book their place as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. I am really pleased both York St John University and Millers could see what we are trying to achieve with this and their support in making it happen has been fantastic.”
Lucie Crowley, Facility and Service Coordinator from York St John University, said “We are delighted to once again host such a fantastic event which will offer members of the local community the opportunity to come together for a delicious meal. One of the key strategic priorities of York St John University is to create a community that promotes health and wellbeing. This event is a fantastic way to integrate and connect individuals that may be isolated or lonely in the friendly atmosphere which we intend to create. Not just on Fish and Chip Friday but at any time – we want York St John University Sports Park to be a place that people feel they can come to see a friendly face and have a chat.”
David Miller, of Millers Fish & Chips, said “We want this event to bring people together and celebrate the fantastic community spirit at the heart of Haxby and York. Whether you’re feeling lonely or just need someone to talk to, we’re ready to welcome people with open arms as they come together and share delicious fish and chips. We’d like to thank York City Knights Foundation and York St John University for letting us be a part of such a fantastic event and creating an opportunity for people to get together in a friendly, social environment so they can bond and create new friendships over Britain’s favourite dish.”
The venue of York St John University Sports Park on Haxby Road has excellent accessibility and associated facilities and is well located on a main road in to York with ample parking, access by footpaths and on a main bus route (Number 1 Blue Line).
