York City Knights Ladies have received a boost ahead of their second season in the Women’s Super League by recruiting Beth Lockwood from Leeds Rhinos.

19 year old Lockwood (pictured left) was a part of the successful Leeds Rhinos squad that won the Women’s Challenge Cup and the Super League League Leader’s Shield in 2018, but has recently moved to the Minster city to start studying Sport & Exercise Therapy at York St John University.

Lockwood said: “I’m happy to have signed for York City Knights Ladies for 2019. I’m hoping to further adapt my skills and knowledge of the game while studying and learning here. The girls have made me feel like a part of the team from the very first training session and I’m excited about what we can achieve this year, especially while the ladies game continues to grow so much.

Lockwood’s preferred position is second row, but is equally comfortable at prop or centre. Her first taste of rugby league came at Bruntcliffe High School in 2015 before moving to Lindley Swift Ladies (Huddersfield) in 2016 at the age of 16.

York City Knights Ladies welcome players of all ages, abilities and experience and are looking to recruit more players for the 2019 Super League season. The Knights train at York St John Sports Campus on Haxby Road on 6-8pm Mondays, 7-8pm Wednesdays and 9.30-11am Sundays until the season starts. Come along and have some fun!

The 2019 Ladies Super League fixtures are released tomorrow (Friday 8th March) as we celebrate #InternationalWomensDay. Keep an eye on the website for more details!
