High flying York City Knights Ladies will play their first ever game at York St John University’s Haxby Road campus this Sunday, looking to maintain their 100% start to the season.

It was announced last May that the newly formed YCK Ladies team would switch to the Summer Merit League and would have access to the facilities of York St John University, while victories away at Brighouse (40-0), Whitley Bay (46-14) and West Leeds (24-14) have given YCK Ladies the perfect start to the new competition.

Backed by the Knights and the Knights Foundation, YCK Ladies have been able to make use of the facilities at the Haxby Road campus including strength and conditioning and back room support.

“I think we’ve become a much better, grounded team and the facilities that the Knights have given us have really benefitted us in training, especially the gym,” YCK Ladies player and former England student Ashley Hyde said.  “Having the new kit and brand is like a new fresh start.”

This is an exciting time for Women’s Rugby League, with the RFL discussing the viability of a Women’s Super League, could we see York City Knights Ladies playing at the top level of the sport in a few years?

Sunday’s opponents, Huddersfield St Joseph’s Ladies come into the match in good form, having won the WARLA Plate Final last Sunday.
