The York City Knight Ladies team play in, and are Founder members of, the RFL’s Betfred Women’s Super League. Now entering its fourth season the team play fixtures against such iconic club names such as Bradford Bulls, Castleford Tigers, Featherstone Rovers, Huddersfield Giants, Leeds Rhinos, Saint Helens, Wakefield Trinity, Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors.
Women’s Rugby League has been well established in the city for a number of years and having the Ladies under the umbrella of the Knights will help not only promote Women’s participation in the sport but also inspire talented females to play at the highest level of the sport.
However, in 2021 the Knights Ladies were boosted by a number of signings to help shape the future of the club both on and off the field. The first appointment was that of Lindsay Anfield as Director of Women’s Rugby. The former England international came to the club with plenty of experience under her belt and a reputation for delivering success. Callum Windley and current York City Knights star, Adam Cuthbertson, also boosted the backroom staff and play key roles in the development of the women’s team. Further additions have been made since, with these introductions combining with the existing crop of players making for one of the country’s topflight teams with a season highlight of playing in the Challenge Cup Final live on BBC television.
