Monday Knight’s set for new form of Touch Rugby – X- League
York City Knights Foundation are delighted to be one of the first Foundations in the country to launch of a new form of touch rugby called X-League (Cross-League). The sessions will run on a weekly basis as from Monday 9th March 7-8pm, at York St John University Sports Park, Haxby road.
For over a decade, the Knights have been running different forms of touch rugby proving that this toned-down version of conventional rugby is an exciting sport that appeals to the masses and can play regardless of their experience, gender, or age.
The emphasis of the sport is placed on running, agility, and ball handling. It’s strength as a sport is how inclusive the game can be. In the past, we have had families take to the pitch, ex-players, current players, and new players coming together to play on the same pitch.
Aside the ease of play and its inclusive nature, there are several other benefits of playing touch. The game offers a fun, practical way to stay fit it also boosts bone and muscle strength and body coordination all in a fun social atmosphere with a great way to make new friends. Indeed, the fast-paced, minimal-contact offers a great alternative to the gym. Participants can have fun getting fit whilst enjoying the excitement and camaraderie of the traditional game but without high impact tackling. In a 60 minutes session, studies have shown players can cover over 3km and working at 80 per cent of their maximal heart rate throughout the game.
The key difference between X-League and other variants is that the Tackle is affected by making a touch on the ball. The game is easy to learn, and easy to play with new participants welcomed. Session are priced at £4 per session or discount booking available online for £24 for 8 weeks and all participants need to register their details online.
