York City Knights Ladies ended their two-match losing run following a 20-6 victory away against Wigan Warriors.

Despite their slow start, York were able to come from behind and seal a hugely important win in the battle for the Women’s Super League semi-finals.

Rebecca Greenfield opened the scoring in the 17th minute as the Warriors punished the visitors for their continuous errors. Georgia Wilson added two extra points with a successful conversion.

Ten minutes later, the Knights hit back. A cross-field kick from Emma Hardy built the perfect platform for the visitors as Savannah Andrade charged down the left side.

As York edged towards the tryline, Rhiannion Marshall released Katie Langan who crossed the whitewash for York’s first points of the game. A successful conversion from Hardy levelled the score.

With just moments to go until the break, the visitors found another breakthrough.

This time, it was Andrade who produced a sensational individual effort as her 45-metre dash saw the Jamaica international over the line.

Wigan had their chances but they simply couldn’t force their way through a resilient York defence.

That was a theme which continued in the second-half as York capitalised and extended their lead.

Tamzin Renouf and Bettie Lambert were able to add eight more points between them as the Knights romped to a 20-6 victory at Robin Park.

Next up for York is a much-anticipated clash with Castleford Tigers at the LNER Community Stadium on Sunday, 19th of September.
