Awesome Knights set new World Record: Sunday 29th April - League 1

A relentless 80 minute performance saw York City Knights run in an incredible 25 tries on their way to setting a new world record score, beating West Wales Raiders 144-0 at Bootham Crescent.

The previous highest score was set by Huddersfield back in November 1994 when they beat Blackpool Gladiators 142-4.

The Knights also beat the widest winning margin, which was shared between Huddersfield and Barrow, who beat Nottingham City 138-0 a day after Huddersfield had set their record.

York scored 25 tries in total, with 22 successfully converted by either Connor Robinson or Ash Robson. Kieren Moss equalled a club record with seven tries in a typically classy display at full back.

Liam Jackson opened the scoring with less than 60 seconds on the clock, but it wasn’t until the tenth minute before the Knights scored again with Moss opening his account for the afternoon.

By half time, the Knights had built up a 60-0 lead with tries from Moss, Connor Robinson (x2), Brad Hey, Joe Porter, Ash Robson, Joe Batchelor, Ronan Dixon and Graeme Horne.

Three further tries in the opening six minutes of the second half via Judah Mazive, Horne’s second and Moss’ third signalled York’s ruthless intent to continue racking up the points, and Horne’s third try, Moss’ fourth & fifth and Aaron Smith brought up the century after an hour played.

James Ford brought off Connor Robinson with one eye on next week’s game at Hunslet, so Ash Robson took over kicking duties and was successful with all six attempts, following two further tries from Moss, Dixon’s second, Smith’s second, Adam Robinson (who received the biggest cheer of the afternoon) and a final try from Robson to round off the phenomenal scoring.

Credit goes to visitors West Wales Raiders who played the game from start to finish in fantastic spirit and continued right up to the final whistle despite the tough circumstances, and were well deserving of their applause off the field at the end of the game.

The Knights now turn their attentions to the tough trip to South Leeds next Sunday, 6th May (3pm) to take on our old rivals Hunslet in a huge Betfred League 1 round nine clash.
