York City Knights are just two wins from Wembley after a hard fought 30-16 win over Newcastle Thunder in humid conditions at Bootham Crescent in the second round of the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup. Head Coach James Ford made five changes to the team that completed a league double over Widnes Vikings last week, with Graeme Horne, Sam Scott and Liam Salter all rested ahead of the huge game at home to Toulouse next Saturday. History has a funny way of repeating itself as for the second time in this Betfred Championship season York City Knights bounced back from a heavy defeat to Featherstone by beating Widnes Vikings to return to third place in the table. York City Knights endured a nightmare trip to the Blackpool Summer Bash yesterday, as they suffered a bruising defeat to a Dane Chisholm inspired Featherstone Rovers for the second time this season. Head Coach James Ford handed debuts to all three midweek loan signings Harry Aldous (prop), Tyler Dupree (substitute forward) and Liam Harris (full back). Josh Jordan-Roberts, Mike Kelly and Jordan Baldwinson were missing from the team that won at Rochdale last week. York City Knights will head to the Summer Bash at Blackpool this weekend sitting in third place outright on the Betfred Championship table, after a scrappy 18-24 victory at Rochdale Hornets yesterday. York City Knights withstood a strong second half performance from Batley Bulldogs at a chilly Bootham Crescent yesterday, to emerge 28-24 winners and move back into the Betfred Championship play-off places. Knights Captain Tim Spears returned from injury to face his old club, and Graeme Horne also came back into the team. Sam Scott picked up an injury in last week’s trip to Toulouse and was replaced by Josh Jordan-Roberts. A stunning second half performance saw York City Knights come from behind to beat Widnes Vikings at a sun drenched Bootham Crescent on Easter Monday, setting a new club record of seven wins in a Betfred Championship season after just ten games. York City Knights were dealt a harsh lesson at the LD Nutrition stadium as Australian half back Dane Chisholm inspired Featherstone Rovers to a 42-12 victory on Good Friday. Matty Marsh, Liam Salter, Robinson, Jack Teanby, Graeme Horne, Scott and Spears were all back after missing the Challenge Cup defeat at Widnes, and hooker Kriss Brining passed his late fitness test.
